David Kandalkar

Born in India David Kandalkar emigrated to Israel with his two years older brother. David visited an agricultural school, at which he enjoyed a special promotion, because at that time the director paid attention also to the musical characteristics of its pupils. On his recommendation David was allowed to show his "painting" to Marcel Janco, a Dadaist of the first hour, who was convinced of the fifteen-year old boys talent and invited him to join the summer academy, which was originally created for older students. After his military service Kandalkar began to work as an actor and stage designer for different theatres in Israel, until he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to painting and sculpture and to emigrate once more, this time to London. Today Kandalkar lives in Switzerland.
